The Great Pyramid is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that still exists.   It was the largest of ten pyramids built from 2600 – 2500 B.C.  It was built as the tomb for King Khufu.  It is estimated that it took up to 25 years to finish.  The workers were not slaves.  It consisted of 2 million blocks weighing approximately 2.5 tons each.  Some of the stones were brought from a quarry that was 500 miles away.  The pyramid covers 13 acres.  It was originally 481 feet high, but is today 450 feet because of decay over the centuries.  It was originally covered with limestone to make the sides smooth.  Until the construction of Lincoln Cathedral in 1311 A.D., it was the tallest structure on Earth.
